Abstract

The report provides the results of street surveys carried out at the request of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to monitor the density and composition of the South Delhi roaming dog population. By a “roaming dog” we mean any dog that may move freely at times on the city streets or other public areas, such as a “stray”, “community dog” or an unconfined owned dog. The estimated roaming dog population was 189,285 or 31 dogs per 1,000 people. There were approximately 10 roaming dogs per kilometer of street in the early morning.
