Abstract

Animal-based neuroscience is entering a period of structural transition rather than abrupt decline. Drawing on a recent analysis by two Mexican neuroscientists, this article explores changing attitudes toward laboratory animal use, recent developments at U.S. primate research centers, long-term declines in public support for animal experimentation, and the increasing interest in human-based, in vitro, computational, and other non-animal methods that are reshaping the future of neuroscience research.
