Abstract
Street dogs are a visible feature of many cities, shaping how residents, tourists, and policymakers perceive urban life. This article traces connections between street dog populations, tourism, and major sporting events—from Athens’ experience with international competitions to Morocco’s preparations for global sports hosting—highlighting the ethical, cultural, and policy challenges surrounding humane dog population management. It argues that compassionate, science-based approaches to street dog management are essential for both community wellbeing and a city’s global reputation.
